Welcome to todayβs edition of the Comfy Belly newsletter. Thanks so much for being here.
Living in the Pacific Northwest corner of the United States for over 25 years has given me the opportunity to grown all kinds of berries, from huckleberries to strawberries. I also consume many pounds of berries every year.
Even the invasive blackberry varieties make it into my pies and cakes. Blackberries can be found on many streets, parks, and bike paths in and around Seattle, making them easy to forage. By late July and early August youβll see people carrying bags or buckets picking blackberries all over the city and suburbs.
To make sure your berries last a while in the refrigerator, use the technique in the video above. It works for all types of berries. And if there is a moldy or bad berry in your batch, toss it before rinsing the rest of the berries.
As we head into berry season in some parts of the world, I have a variety of berry recipes to inspire you. Theyβre packed with vitamins, minerals, healthy carbohydrates, and fiber, including essentials like vitamin C and K. Iβm getting excited for my little strawberry patch in my backyard too (see the video below).
Love always,
Erica
